Maryland Emergency Department Crowding
This map shows how often Maryland emergency departments were severely crowded during 2026, using data from the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Emergency Department Advisory System (EDAS).
What the Colors Mean
Each point is an emergency department. Color shows the percent of time the ED was at Advisory Level 4. Level 4 means the number of patients in the ED was at 131% or more of its capacity.
Reporting Period
January 1, 2026 – October 7, 2026
Project Overview
Each point on the map represents an emergency department. Color indicates the percent of time the ED was at Advisory Level 4 — meaning the patient count reached 131% or more of its capacity. Level 4 is based on patient count only and does not account for acuity (how sick the patients are). Click any hospital to see its Level 4 hours and percent, number of reroute alerts, total and average reroute hours, Code Black alerts, and trauma bypass alerts.
